Bird Identification Course

Opportunity to Sharpen Birding Skills!

Red-tailed hawk, light morph, immature - Buteo jamaicensis by D.A.Rintoul AoMC is pleased to announce a new format and discussion points for our annual Bird Identification course. After reviewing basic information (e.g., new field guides, CD/DVD materials, spotting scopes, digital cameras…) regarding “birding” during class #1, the course will focus on techniques to assist participants in difficult-to-identify and hard-to-find species, Class 2 - Habitats and their birds; Class 3 - Birding by Ear; Class 4 - Silhouettes, poor lighting, flight paths and plumage variants and Class 5) Migration and Seasonality. The course will consist of five, day-long sessions, each of which will include a “classroom” session and an associated field excursion to a birding hot-spot.

See the latest update about the I.D. Course.

The course begins on Friday, February 15 and runs on consecutive Fridays through March 14th. Because we know of inevitable scheduling conflicts, this year we are also offering the course on a ‘per session’ pay-as-you-go basis in addition to the total course fee. Registration for all five sessions is $60 per person ($50 for Audubon members). However, single-session attendance is possible - price varies based on vehicle rental rates for the field trip for each class. Now’s the time to take your birding skills to a higher level. Call the office (772)-288-2637 where we are keeping a roster sign-up sheet of those who are interested. We "hold" your seat for a few days and will 'reserve' it when the check (made payable to Audubon) is received

Greg Braun, our Executive Director is again teaching the course. You may also email him at dgregbraun@aol.com for more information.
